History and origins
The first written mentions of Oppeano date to the ninth and tenth centuries, with names such as Opdanum and Castropedanum suggesting a fortified settlement. The territory holds much older traces linked to the Atestine civilisation: finds from the necropolises around Oppeano are now held in museums in Este, Verona, Legnago and even Rome and Florence. In the Middle Ages Oppeano fell under the podesteria of Verona and then under Scaligeri rule; from 1405 to 1796 it was part of the Republic of Venice's domains. City status, granted in 2011, confirmed the municipality's growing role in the Lower Verona area.

Oppeano has no monumental centre in the strict sense, but a fabric of hamlets each with its own parish church and small local collections of archaeological finds, evidence of the area's long Atestine and Roman past. The municipality's structure, spread across several nuclei - Oppeano capoluogo, Ca' degli Oppi, Vallese, Mazzantica and part of Villafontana - reflects the history of a rural territory organised around small farming villages rather than a single old town.

Oppeano lies about 22 kilometres southeast of Verona, in a strategic position in the Lower Verona plain, well connected to the city of Verona via provincial roads crossing the plain. It can be reached by car in just over twenty minutes from Verona and lies close to other towns in the area such as Isola della Scala and Bovolone.

In recent years Oppeano has recorded population growth above the local average, becoming a reference centre for services in the Lower Verona area. The economy remains predominantly agricultural, but has been enriched by small and medium craft and commercial businesses spread across the various hamlets, a sign of a territory consolidating its strategic role.
